Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is undertaking a public consultation exercise on its Active Travel Network Map (ATNM).

Active Travel is the name given for everyday, short distance journeys that people can make either on foot or by cycle such as to work, school or to reach the shops and other facilities. This can also include users of wheelchairs or other mobility aids. It does not refer to journeys that people may make for recreational reasons, such as walking or cycling in the countryside.

The Council would like to expand and improve the quality and provision of active travel routes throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf and this survey will help us to do that.

The ATNM shows existing Active Travel routes that can be used to reach local facilities as well as proposed new routes, based on the feedback that the Council received several years ago following a previous consultation exercise. In most cases, these particular routes will require further studies to look into the design of these routes and the engineering and environmental impact. We have tried to ensure that all these routes connect to form a network that will enable residents to reach nearby facilities from their communities, both safely and conveniently. The ATNM also shows additional information to assist pedestrians, wheelers and cyclists.

To take part, please can you first have a look at our FAQ pages and the ATNM before completing the survey questionnaire. The Council would welcome your comments which can be made by clicking on the link to the survey below. We will be also visiting a number of public venues in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Please see the ‘KEY DATES’ for more information.

The survey runs from 29th May 2026 until 20th August 2026.
