Let's Talk Electric Vehicle Charging
With the declaration of a ‘Climate Emergency’ by Welsh Government, Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council (RCTCBC) is clear that it must play its’ part in taking urgent action to mitigate the risks of Climate Change. The Council has recognised the fundamental changes that are needed to the way we all live our lives, and, as such, has committed to becoming a Net Zero Local Authority by the target date of 2030.
We previously consulted on your views to help us to plan our future development of Electric Vehicle Charging across Rhondda Cynon Taf. The results of which were published here.
Following this, we have now produced an Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy, to outline several key principles that will empower the Council to advise, help and support individuals, or parties, that wish to make the switch from conventional vehicles to EVs.
The Strategy aims to set out why action is needed and to identify clear outcomes, to coordinate a County Borough wide approach, to promote and encourage the development of a robust and practical electric vehicle charging (EVC) network, whilst fostering a transition from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles as part of the Council’s wider sustainable transport goals.
The publication of this Strategy will be followed by an Implementation Plan, which will act as a road map to inform individuals and/or organisations of the appropriate route to take when installing EV infrastructure and provide best practice, practical guidance and relevant information regarding funding and legislation.
Where would you like to see community Electric Vehicle charging points?
The Council will be looking at key places to introduce community charging points in public locations across RCT, these may include;
- Leisure Centres
- Car Parks
- Tourist and Cultural Attractions
- Town Centres
The Council is keen to see where there is public interest and demand for such community charging. Please use the map to let us know what you think and leave some comments. To drop a pin, click the + button on the left-hand side.
