Following approval of the Pontypridd Placemaking Plan, in June 2022, the Council have been working with a specialist multi-disciplinary team to develop deliverable regeneration proposals for the ‘Southern Gateway’: a key action area, as defined within the Placemaking Plan, located to the south of the Town Centre.
Key objectives for investment delivered within this area include: enhancement of the arrival experience; delivery of new high-quality multi-purpose public realm; improved connectivity between different modes of transports outside the railway station; and redevelopment of key existing urban blocks to open up the town to the Rhondda and Taff rivers and Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.
Delivery of the following key projects will support the realisation of the Southern Gateway objectives:
Redevelopment of 97-102 Taff Street (former M&S/Dorothy Perkins/Burton Stores) to establish new riverside plaza.
Redevelopment of former Bingo Hall site to provide public realm and ‘bus corridor’.
Reconfiguration of the station forecourt to improve connectivity and movement between different modes of transport.
Re-purposing of Sardis House.
Rationalisation and improvement of existing properties.
On this page you will find important updates about key project progress, as well as information about future consultation activities. You can also find out about project milestones via press releases and via our social media accounts. However, if you do have any queries or questions about the key projects located within the Southern Gateway please send these to: SouthernGateway@rctcbc.gov.uk.
